I would like to hear about any success stories regarding itegration of WinCC flexible HMI's with Allen Bradley Controllogix PLC's via the new ethernet driver.  I have done several DF1 connections w/o any problems, but i need a litttle confidence building here before we push our sales department.  I have seen a live demo, but that doesn't always tell you the whole story.

Thanks

I don't have a past project readily available, but i have attached a couple snapshots.  I should clarify, my use of AB PLC's and Siemens HMI's was restricted to the SLC 5/0x series, specifically the SLC 5/05's.

The new Ethernet driver and Contol Logix looked to be the just as easy, but scares me more.

Its easier to use WinCCflexible than AB's own RSViewME.  There is even a TAG convesion tool, though at the time, i had done it by hand.   I find that funny. grin

The control logix configuration is not any different when used with an AB HMI or Siemens HMI.  Its the HMI configuration that changes.  And from what i have seen in a demonstration, its only the tags that change, which is defined by the connection type.  You do need WinccFlex 2007 though, from what i understand

I just did this on a project and it does work.  Just make sure there are not any conflicts with the IP address or the HMI starts to act strange and never gives any alarms that there is a conflict.

The one thing to keep in mind is the ports that must be opened if you are using a switch.

Second place is the first loser.

Ron:

Great, thank for the post.  Would you mind sharing what hardware you used?  MP277/MP377/SLC or ControlLogix?

Thanks

I just installed this project on the customers floor.  Here is the hardware they had that I had to interface to.

CompactLogix L32E CPU
MP277 - 8" HMI (2) these were supplied by my company.
We replaced a managed Cisco Switch with a unmanged Linksys switch because of the port issues I posted about earlier.

Once the IP addresses of the 2 HMI panels were set up properly and the new switch was installed everything worked out fine.

Second place is the first loser.

Floyd,

Three months ago I completed a project using WinCC Flexible 2007 software with an MP277 8” Touch Panel that connects to an Allen Bradley Flexlogix Processor using the intergraded Ethernet drive.
At first I had the same fears as you about the setup and reliability. My customers are diehard AB supporters, but I sold them on the remote access control and monitoring that Siemens offered.

Siemens didn’t list the Flexlogix Processor as being a compatible with the intergraded Ethernet drive. It does however work and there is no special configuration needed. The Siemens hot line stated that they did not list the Flexlogix Processor because AB was going to discontinue the product.

The communication setup was easy in the software; add the IP address and Processor slot address.  Importing the tags using the Siemens Excel file works but you will need to play around with it to figure out the tag update rates and other fields in the tag database. You can access the AB controller tags and programs tags. Other products I’ve used only allow you to access the Controller tags.

This was my first time using WinCC Flexible or a Siemens HMI. I was happy with the out come of the project but more importantly my customer was happy with the out come.
