Hi arnie,

S7 1200 hasn't library for LonWorks protocol, but if you need, you can implement the protocol and use a CM RS 485 module.

The protocols supported are:

Through the ethernet port:
TCP/IP, ISO on TCP and in the near future, PROFINET and UDP.
Modbus TCP for PAC3200 (library).

Through the CM modules:
RS485 Modbus and USS (library)
RS232 PtP.
In the near future PROFIBUS CM module and GSM CM module.

Take a look at this link:

Thanks Mr Paiva for your reply,

I find out that there is a module DP/LON link in the siemens building technology so i hope that i can make a connection with the new Profibus module for s7-1200

The phisical level of Lonwork protocol (one in ISO/OSI model) isn't RS485, but it is dedicated.
This means no possible to use standard board of S71200 to develop comunication.
Easiest way is Modbus master library on S71200 and a gateway LON-MODBUS outside.

One of the possible gatewayLON-MODBUS is protonode ( http://www.marcomweb.it/ProtoCessor/ProtoNode.aspx )
But other LON-MODBUS gateway are available on the market.

I think that LON is not open source and you can't find documentation for making a protocol stack in PLC or any other MCU, instead you have to buy a ready made module or dedicated ASIC for use with MCU.
