Hi All,
I have installed WinCC ver 7.0 SP1 HF5 and Step 7 v5.4 SP5 HF1 on my laptop.The OS on

my machine is Windows XP SP3. I am getting the following error when I try to run Step 7
"The project contains objects of the software package 'WinCC(Component Object

Manager)' which can not be edited because the software package is not installed or

exists in an earlier version." see attached screenshot.

There has been no previous installation of Wincc or Step 7 on the laptop before.

The component you are missing is installed with WinCC.  You have to select the user defined installation to find the component you require.  More details can be found in this thread: https://www.automation.siemens.com/WW/forum/guests/PostShow.aspx?HTTPS=REDIR&PostID=217504&language=en
Good Luck

Hi,

Thanks Bill, my Step7 is now running without throwing any errors. I uninstalled WinCC, Step7 and the WinCC SQL Server instance and then did a re-installation beginning with Step7 and then WinCC using the user defined installation option as per your suggestion.laugh

I am happy it worked for you.  In the future you can add or remove WinCC components without uninstalling WinCC.  All you have to do is insrt the DVD and start thin installation process.  Then select user defined and check the software components you want install and remove the check for the software you want to remove.
