Hello to all,

Recently I was forced to chnage my lap top. Before that I converted it to the VMware virtual machine. It kept all it`s functionality except to act as a PC station so I ordered new CP5711. I upgraded my Step 7 to V5.4+SP5+HF1 and  virtual machine recognizes new hardware CP5711, starts driver installation but it ends with message There was a problem installing this hardware. This device cannot start.(Code 10). In PG/PC interface it can be found with yellow mark.

I tried it on another VMware machine that has PS2009 and it works like a charm.
One more data ... in the moment that I was converting physical to virtual machine it had an active CP5512 conection so virtual machine rememberd it althought it does not support PCMCIA slots. It also figures in PC/PG interface and can not be deleted or deinstalled. I red somehwere that there is some kind of connection between these two procesors.

I tried everything I know but without results...Can someone help me?

Hello,

I am sorry... but what is PS2009??? I have no clue what you use here.

As you received the CP 5711 you also received a copy of the SIMATIC NET Software, did you already installed this software on your VMWare? Sometimes it is required to install the basic driver of the CP 5711 on the host system too... but this is something many people discuss about... but maybe it helps.

I would start with this first. On the NET you will also find a HF or SP for the driver of the CP 5711.

Check it out.

Best regards

Hello,

Yes, you didn't mention how you install (which version of SimaicNet). I think PS2009 means Premium Studio 2009. Bu this doesn't matter with CP5711. Important is version of Simatic Net plus drivers for this card. So, follow J_Bell' advises and if you still have problem give more details...

Best regards,

Hristo Mihalev

Hello and thanks for answering,

Yes PS2009 means Premium Studio 2009. When you install Step 7 v5.4 SP5 HF1 you already have drivers for CP5711. But anyway I installed SIMATIC NET 2008 SP2 and still I have same error trying to install CP5711...

Mr Bell please give me the link for HF of the SP for CP5711  to try with that.

Hi,

Perhaps HF1 for version 2008 could fix the problem. Basically this hotfix doesn't regard CP5711 but...blush Look at HF1 SimaticNet 2008

Hello Umencho,

I do not think that this will help... It should work by just upgrading Step 7 to v5.4 SP5 HF1. I think that the real problem is because I did not uninstall CP5512 befor converting physical machine to virutal. If you take a look to CP5711 manual you can see that there are some issues about CP5512 and CP5711...
Now with the virtual machine it keeps acting like it has active CP5512 installed and I can not uninstall  because VMware do not support PCMCIA slot, netither my new lap top has it.
I erase allo the drivers, registers.... everything that I can find but it gets back everytime I starte PC/PG interface...

Hello Djordje,

well... I just realized that the Update I mentioned seems only to be offered in German yet... but I add the link anyway:

Update for SIMATIC NET CP 5711

to add some of the content of this entry... here some interpretations of the text there:

Reason for release:
- sporadic Start-up problems of the CP 5711

Install requirements
- SIMATIC NET CP 2008 + SP 1 / 2
- STEP 7 V 5.4 SP 5
- other SIMATIC Software supporting the CP 5711

Steps for installation:
1. Download the exe-File to your local HDD.
2. Start the self-extracting file with double-click.

Regarding your point with the CP 5512 it seems to be really a problem there but this might be caused by the situation you made the virtual machine. As you created the image as the CP was plugged the required registry settings have been made for the use of the CP. As the CP is no longer available and the CP has not been uninstalled by the system the registry still "thinks" the CP is there... even so it is not.

What could we do in this case... well... I do not know what you already did but how about some settings in the registry? I think deleting the existing path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SOFTWARE / Siemens / SINEC / LogDevices / CP 5512 MPI or PPI or FWL ... a.s.o.

should fix this. But be aware.... changing something within your registry is always being done at your own risk!

If not I fear that the driver is deeper insight the system than I expected it. One thing is for sure... the sign shown at your PG/PC interface settings shows that the system has problems with the CP anyway.

By the way... which version of VMWare do you use you said?

Best regards

Hello Mr Bell,

I installed the update but still reports error in CP5711 driver installation.
I tried with deleting registries first day but as soon as I start PG/PC it apears again.
I also deinstaled all the Siemens software and then when I started PG/PC aplication it was without CP5512. But as soon as I installed Simatic manager again it was there. So, probably you are right...drivers are deep inside.

I use VMware version 6.5.1 build - 126130

I am out of ideas... may be I will try with some VMware forum....

Thank you for your time

Hello,

Perhaps fresh copy of Windows would be faster way. I know this is very "hard" way, but sometimes is only helpful...

Hello..

... like you... I also run out of ideas at all.

One last thing...have you ever tried to plug any USB V2.0 device to this PC running VMWare at? Was it recognized at all?

I am sorry... but I have no other idea.

Best regards
