Hello "how come?"
Could you be a little more detailed in your question?
You are posting in the "other Process Control Systems" folder; which system are you working on?
Without more information, I would guess your question related to differnt ground connections required for EMC protection of your CPU rack (PE being "Protective Earthing"), especially since you are asking about connecting IE and PE together (shielding and Protective Earth?).
If that is the case, you could look at the following manual on EMC installation guiidelines; it is for Sinumerik units (CNC controllers), but it covers a lot of the principles involved in protecting electronic units in the field. Hope you find it as informative as I did when I read it.

If the matter refers to anything else, please try to explain your requirements qith a little more details.
Hope this helps,

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the attachment i will go and read it and find out more.laugh By the way, as i was confused by the term I.E and P.E thus i want to know more about them. What i have read from some explanation is I.E refers to instrument ground and P.E refers to power ground. But i dont quite understand how to differentiate them. How we classifiy whether an equipment or a device should terminated to I.E or P.E bar? What will happen if i dont terminate them? I also come across a term call floating ground [as they refers to ship], the I.E and P.E are both terminated together. But how come? I thought I.E and P.E are two different things?sad. Maybe there are still some concept which i didnt get it. I try to search thru. the internet for the tons of doubt/questions i have in mind. But still can't satisfy my curiosity between these two friends.sad

Hello How Come?;
Please take the time to study the document I suggested, as a starter. There is a complete chapter on Shileding, how it is done in a panel (granted it is for drives, but the main ideas are the same as for instrumentation) where it should be connected to protective earth (equipotential bonding).
When you have need of more details, or if this has confused you even more , come back to the forum.
Hope this helps,
Daniel Chartier
