We have an S7-416 DP which includes an S5 adapter, holding a WF723 card.  The system also has five Masterdrive MC units.

We have been told (by a salesman) that we should upgrade this WF723 to a proper S7 card.  Does anyone know if this is true?  We have been having problems with one of the drives not positioning to the correct place, and we are unsure whether we should just buy a new WF723 card or replace with a more up-to-date one?

Thank you!

Hi,

The WF 723 (A/B/C) are not sold anymore, so you have the problem that those cards in 2013..2014 are not as spareparts available any more. sad

So the salesman is pinpointing on that item (I hope) and you can not buy a new card that easy, you have to give back the defect card.

But when you want to upgrade to a S7 card you have to know which functions are used....
Normally a FM 453 can replace the WF 723A/B, if you have the WF 723C then the FM 357 is a option (PLEASE CHECK WHAT YOU HAVE and WHAT YOU WANT).

I hope that the answer will help, if you have still questions, don't hesitate to ask me.

All the best, Late

hi

what do you mean "problems with one of drives not correct positioning"? This card read impulses from some kind encoder and after that everything is making from PLC, i mean program organisation. The card have 6 chanels (maybe I am wrong blush) You have 5 drives and you can change the imput chanel for this drive. (but this is only for the moment decision) the other - in the future you must follow the Late's decision.togue

Thank you both for your replies.

Firstly, the card is a WF723A, so it seems the replacement would be the FM 453.

The drive is giving the error "following error at standstill".  We have changed the encoder and the encoder cable, and this hasnt solved the problem.  We have checked the motor and gearbox, and they seem OK.  Only one drive is giving a problem, all the other drives are OK.  The error seems to only happen right near the end of positioning (for example, the last 10mm).  What I cannot understand is that the PLC program has been written to ignore and reset this error - but then the machine will cut the wrong size mad

I have downloaded DriveMonitor to see if I can identify the problem, but I cannot get my laptop to talk to any of the Masterdrive MC drives sad

hi

Another suggestion - if the drives is the same, I mean like parameters, and the motor is the same you can upload the program from one "working good"  drive and download in the "bad" drive.
For getting talk your laptop with masterdrive you need a cable. See this links (my answer, I use this type cable): Communication cable for Drive Monitor

Hi,

There is a possibility to switch "Nachfuehren" on when the ax is in position, then the Setpoint is following the Proces Value..... togue [I don't know the English term]blush

It could be that there is no break on the ax and that the position then not could hold the ax on the position. The distance could be also to narrow so that the ax couldn't stay on the position. When the drive is not good adjusted there is also a change that this kind of messages are coming. astonished

I hope that the answer will help, if you have still questions, don't hesitate to ask me.

Cable made as diagram, plugged in to X103 and - no response cry

DriveMon 5.4.1.1

Bus Type - USS
Interface - COM4 (correct - I can see transmission lights on USB to Serial converter).
Baud rate - 9600
Bus Operation - Automatic mode

Setup an online connection - Find Drives (Quantity 1) - Start - finds nothing.  This happens on all 5 of my drives.

Any suggestions ?
