No, my EXM448 is not damaged as I succeeded to download the profibus port configuration with a PC with an integrated serial port.
The problem is clearly coming from the adapter. To my opinion, ss52load doesn't use the standard Windows functions to access to serial port but rather use a direct access to the serial port registers. Ss52load is a very old program.
These kind of program can not work with an USB adapter. From what I read, this problem can be resolved by using a PCMCIA adapter, which is much more expensive.
Concerning the use of the CP5611, I am quite disappointed we can't find any documentation anywhere concerning the use of this card with COM Profibus.
In the SYMADYN D (same hardware as in the EXM448 card) documentation, there is the following description :
To operate the SS52 as master, a COM database must be generated, using
the COM PROFIBUS (or COM ET200) program, and loaded into the SS52.
The program runs on a PC under Windows.
The database is loaded into the SS52 via
• PROFIBUS
(with PC PROFIBUS card CP5411, CP5511 or
MPI card or interface)
• COM1/2 interface of the PC and RS 232 parameterizing/diagnostics
interface of the SS52 with „SS52load“ driver program.
COM PROFIBUS must also be ordered if SS52 is configured as master:
Order No.: 6ES5 895-6SE12 (German)
The driver program SS52load is included in COM PROFIBUS from V3.1 or
can be obtained at no charge from Siemens via the Intranet:
ftp://www.erlf80.asi.siemens.de/SIMADYN_D/html/treiber.htm
I am disappointed we can't find a clear description anywhere for the use of the CP5511 with COM PROFIBUS, as the serial port is becoming more and more rare on today's PCs.
