Hello, dear experts!

Our distributed configuration of S5-135U PLC uses modules IM-304/IM314 and 6es5 721-0DD50 cable (aprox. 400m length). The cable was damaged by the fire. We repaired it by soldering wires of the cable.  This is a temporary solution and we want to replace damaged cable.

So I have the following questions:

1. Can we use several foiled LAN cables or several shielded phone cables instead of one 6es5 721-0DD50 cable?

2. Where can I find technical specifications of the  6es5 721-0xxx0 cable?

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello aag;
Informatoion on the 721 cable is npt easy to come by, so I am glad to report that you will find pinout information in the S7-400 Module data manual:
http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/1117740

The S7-400 IM 463-2 interfaces a S7-400 controller to S5 systems through IM 314s, and they have added descriptions of the cable pinouts and termination block of the 721 cables to the manual.
Hope this helps,

dchartier! Thank you very much for fast reply laugh

This will help!!!

But I still need any information about technical specifications of the 6ES5 721-0 cable: run (lay) length, number of twists per length unit, impedance, inductance, capacitance etc.

The issue is in the following: we can't  buy or order this cable, and we should find some solution how to replace it with other cables (not  6ES5 721-0  type).

May be you know where can I find Catalog ST54.1? I also need it.

Best regards!

Hello aag;
I am afraid I have reached my limits on information I can provide for this cable, unfortuately.
Maybe you can still purchase that cable though, as it is still in cacellation phase (until Oct. 1, 2020, as far as trhe spare parts application is concerned), and there is a link to spare parts investigationt for them; see the following link:
http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/17322403
That would be a good place to start your search.

Now catalog ST 54.1 is listed as dating from around 1992, and I see no electronic version for it. The best I can suggest is you try contacting a Siemens Distributor (if you work in America) or rep. and ask if they still have a (dusty) copy on the shelves.
Don't worry, they should still have a decent sens of humor...
Hope this helps,

Dear, dchartier!
Thank you very much for such helpful information. Now we know exactly that we can order a new cablegrin.

And one more question: is this cable delivered already with 50-pin connectors or not? Because I can't find any order information about these 50-pin connectors and how can I buy them?

Best regards.

Hello aag;
I cannot say for sure, but my experience is that such a cable from Siemens spare parts should come complete, assembled and ready for use.
Try this website to get pricing and contact information for Siemens Automation spares:
