Hello,
I am having new CPU 417-4H (O/N: 6ES7 417 - 4HL04-0AB0) version - 4.0.12. Can this CPU work with existing CPU with version 4.0.3 in Hot redundancy. I will be retaining the old memory card without any changes in the data present in it. If this is possible please tell the procedure to replace the CPU.

Hello faizuddin;

The basic principle for any redundant equipment in H-system is that both redundant partners (CPUs, I/O modules, ET 200M modules) must be of the same revision in harware and firmware.

Look at this notice taken from the following manual:

New CPUs are always shipped with the latest operating system version. If this differs from the version of the operating system of the remaining CPU, you will have to equip the new CPU with the same version of the operating system. Either create an operating system update card for the new CPU and use this to load the operating system on the CPU or load the required operating system in HW Config with "PLC -> Update Firmware", see section Updating the firmware without a memory card (Page 83).

So you should take the CPU with the lowest revision number and upgrade it so both have the newer number.

As it is not allways possible to stop the plant alternatively you can also downgrade the firmware of the new CPU in stead of upgrading the running CPU.
In all cases they have to have the same HW version. You can order CPU's with older HW versions as a spare part from siemens, contact your local siemens representative for this.

The new firmware (4.012) fix the error. I believe that the lower version - is inappropriate. In the documentation, as I recall, describes how to update firmware of H-system without stopping system. There is a risk only in the fact that at the small time the reservation is lost. All the more so when downgrade firmware problems are similar
