Hi all !

A friend of mine has asked some questions form Siemens Support Team, which were not answered after a long time and I would like to try it once again here, since I could not help him either.

To avoid any confusion, I will copy and paste the questions and hope somebody could answer. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

I have a CPU315-2DP with CP343-1 which is connected to TP port of a  SCALANCE X101-1.
on the other side, there is a CPU315-2 PN/DP which is connected to a SCALANCE X104-2.
These 2 SCALANCE are connected via Multimode fiber optic cable.
but I have these problems:
1. how do I get the communication between CP343-1 and SCALANCE X101-1? (I already connect the CP343-1 to SCALANCE with straight-through cables, Port1 on CP343-1 to P1 on SCALANCE but LED on CP343-1 and LED on SCALANCE doesn't lit)

2. how do I get the communication between SCALANCE X101-1 and SCALANCE X104-2? (I already connect the SCALANCE X101-1 to SCALANCE X104-2 with Multimode 50/125 fiber optic cables, P2 on SCALANCE X101-1 to P5 on SCALANCE X104-2 but LED on SCALANCE X101-1 and LED on SCALANCE X104-2 doesn't lit) the Fiber Optic Cable is tested and it is ok.

3. In the commissioning Manual of SCALANCE X101 (folliwing link) (Network topologies: bus topology on page 11 of 86 document) it is shown that a SCALANCE X101-1 is connected to SCALANCE X104-2 via Fiber Optic cable. So I think that our configuration is OK and it should work.

Let me add something to it:
1- Using no FO and just Ethernet (connecting RJ45) still no LEDs go on.
2- Direct connection (bypassing the x101-1 and reading directly from CPU 315-PN/DP is possible.
3- The configuration is almost exactly in accordance with the mentioned page of the document.

Is there any chance, that this matter is caused by any conflicts or  mismatchings (i.e. between Scalance x101-1 and x104-2 or CPUs etc.) in system?
Has anybody any experience with x101-1? It seems that this part is not widely popular!

Thanks in advanced and please let me know, if further information is needed.

Best Regards from Stuttgart

Hi,

What LEDs are lit on the both Scalance device? In what mode is X101-1 switched? You van change this by using the set button.

If you bypass the fiber link, do you the same Ethernet cable as in the setup with the fiber link?

I've worked with this components multiple times in the past and I don't understand why it's not working.

Best regards,

Hi,

The SCALANCE shows no activity, when LAN cable is connected to CP 343-1. No LED goes on.
When the X101-1 is connected to X104-2 via FO, no LED goes on either.

Considering the experience of the people working on the project, I'd say it must be either something too serious, or something too simple is being overseen.

Is there any limitations in using these two SCALANCEs together or with CP 343-1 or CPU315-2DP or CPU315-2PN/DN? It seems to be impossible, but can there be something wrong with the used FB and FCs? Should these switches be defined in Network Configuration (or whatever it is called nowadays) too?

Without using X101-1 (direct connection of CP343-1 to the X104-2 via cable) everything goes smoothly and a connection can be established. Another X101-1 was tested too, same results.

Thanks in advanced for helping me.
Best Regards
Mahyar

Hi,

Is no LED on at all? Please tell me the LED-patern of the devices. There are more LEDs on the device then just the LEDs for the network cabling.

Best regards,
