A SIL3 device has a lesser chance of failure on demand, than a SIL2 device.SIL levels are more applicable to safety systems and normally are stated for systems rather than single devices.Main difference between SIL 2 and SIL 3 is Probability of failure on demand per year.It does not differ in operational functionality but has documented failure modes with identification of lambda, SFF and finally has a defined reliabilty

Hello, Safety integrity level is define as a relative level of risk reduction provided by safety function or specific target level of risk reduction. it is IEC 61508 STD. Applicable to all sectors of industry IEC61511=Applicable to process sector IEC62061=Applicable to machine sector Safety requires protection against dangers for …Human, machine, process, environment. Dangers that can result because of function faults must be prevented before they occur. Regards

The difference between a transmitter certified for use in SIL3 applications and a SIL2 certified unit is that the SIL3 unit will have satisfied more onerous requirements with respect to its design, in particular reliability and failure modes.

Hello,

SIL2 & SIL3 are related with PFD and SFF.

If we consider a CPU or Field Device then its a specific function of electonic component or device and how it functions.

In Safety Instrumented System (SIS), Safety Intergrity Level (SIL) relates to Safety Instrumented Function (SIF). SIL applicable for device to use it inside SIF for SIL3 or SIL2 application based on SIL applicable to electronic device or components.

For more clarification refer an enclosed PDF extract.
