Just 2 weeks ago I had a booster pump trip due to the Simovert Masterdrives (model 6SE7021-8EB21) failure.  The VFD's cooling fan bearing was found jammed and 2 of the DC link capacitors coated with black colored soot.  The manufacturing date printed on the capacitor surface was Jan 98.  I am worry that these capacitors had reached the end of its service life.

We have 47 sets of Simovert Masterdrives installed in our production line.  And these VFDs have been in use for over 10 years.  Is there a way to check the working condition of the DC link capacitors?  I am wondering if I can measure the percentage of ripple of the DC link output.

Please help.

Cliff

Hello Cliff,
Our experience on power capacitor connected to a AC Drive or UPS equipment, the maximum life span is between 10 years to 15 years. The chemical inside begins to dryed up. I think you can
measure the ripple voltage value by using digital meter on AC selected voltage range.

Hello RicoT.
I understand that I can read the DC link voltage from the parameters.  May I know I should measure which terminals in the Simovert Masterdrives for the DC link voltage?
Do you have other suggestion so that I can measure the working conditions of my aging Masterdrives?
I ask the same question to the Siemens Singapore.  It seems that they do not know how to do it.  They suggest me to upgrade all the Masterdrives to Sinamics G120.
