Hello,
You will not find a HW configurator as in Step7 (where you also specify the addresses).
In S5, depending on the family, the addresses are either depending on the slot where the borad is plugged, or set with switches on the (periphery) boards themselves.
Special boards like communication processors may only be placed on given slots in the racks.

FX, DX
in S5, FBs can only range from FB0 to FB255. Idem for DBs. Due to the way the internal memeory adressing is realized.
In large systems, it was neccessary to extend the number of FBs ==> FX (and for DBs ==> DX).

Best regards

Hai Jklm,

From your reply, what i understood i will explain, if wrong please clarify.

The hardware configuration [PS,Controller,Communication Processor,Analog I/O,Digital I/O etc.] defenition dont have to do by the programmer,it depends on type number of slots/racks.??

Thanks&Regards,
Raj

Hello,
With S5 systems (there are several families and details may be different), you compose the hardware, you place the modules in allowed slots for that type of hardware.
The module address is either fixed assigned by the slot or with dil switches on the modules. There is no drawing of the hardware in the programming device. You could by mistake assign an address twice or create overlappings. As programmer, you need a manual drawing and I/O allocation to know what addresses to use within your program.

In step7 you make a kind of drawing in HWconfig of the way the system is composed and you assign or change default periphery addresses in the configurator.
Advantages: no dip switches anymore, you can reassign addresses without accessing physically the hardware, the configurator can detect addressing errors (an address assigned twice, ...), etc ...
As programmer, you can find back from HWconfig what addresses are used in the system.

Best regards
