Has anyone managed to fully virtualize WinAC RTX 2008?

With ethernet communication interface. So that one could use that on a laptop,
without Intel 82541PI Ethernet controller?

Thank you

So what exactly do you want to have?
fully virtualize without any interfaces?
because what you wrote is a little bit confusing. you want to have the RTX fully virtualize but also want to have a ethernet communication interface? Rnf:lblSmileyTooltip_ think

Yes. But as far as I see it now, this cannot be done.
It would be great, if WinAC RTX would support any
generic network card.

I don't mean this for production, but for simulation/testing purposes.

Oh i think it is possible to have the WinAC fully virtualize.

If you install STEP7 and WinAC RTX on the same computer and set the PG/PC Interface to internal you can simulate or test your program. You only have to set the PG/PC interface to internal and set the Component Configuration correctly.

This is the way i am testing my self made programs in STEP7.

Hello,

I think it's not a question of support by WinAC for the virtual network card.
It's more a question of support by VM-Ware. VM-Ware would need to have a realtime driver for their virtual network card.
It's only what I think.

mark

Actually there is a work around.
Siemens sells an application called "WinAC IP Driver V2" that gives you access to the TCP stack of windows from the WinAC RTX. The normal T-blocks can't be used, but some slightly modyfied ones comes with the package. Works fine, is a little bit tricky to setup since the blocks are not able to be used as multi-instances.

Thank you all for answers.

To make the testing environment as real as possible I bought that Intel Ethernet card. Actually this was pretty good solution, as this ethernet cards cost around €20-25, which is not too bad.

The only problem is, I cannot use this on a laptop on the field - but ok - I do most of the test stuff in the office anyway.

This package might be useful, however changing all T-blocks just for tests and then back might get annoying in a while. However, I might try it anyway :-)

Hi Jure,
Could you please describe a little bit more your final solution to this? I'm really interested in having a solution based on WinAC RTX and virtual machines to test our control code in simulation.
Thanks in advance,

Could you please let us know your current implementation? It would be very useful for all of us.
Thanks

Hello Quike,

I didn't virtualize it in the end. I am using WinAC natively on one PC with a supported Intel ethernet card. We use it only to test profinet communication with different devices. Regarding the price of the WinAC license, the intel ethernet card is for free!

Anything else can be pretty much tested in PLCSIM.

If you really need it virtual, I would try that proposition above with IP driver v2. However, I am not sure if the profinet communication will work this way...

Rgds,
Jure
