Hello,
I'm wondering what the biggest differences are between the cu305 cu310 and cu320 drives.
thanks

Hello SebOber,

Actually to call these items drives is not an accurate description.

All of the above items mentioned are controllers which are selectable within the SINAMICS S drive family.

Following is a brief summary to provide a summary desciption of thier overall design for optimum selection of the best controller for a drive application.

More complete description and cut sheets can be viewed on Industry Mall.  Link below or you can type "Industry Mall" with Google search engine.

CU305 is a controller that is designed for interface to the power section of Power Module (PM340) as a single axis drive for control of a motor.  The combination of CU305 and PM340 are commonly called a SINAMICS S110 drive.  The CU305 can control either a permanent magnet servo motor or a squirrel cage induction motor.  The CU305 provides either speed or position control of a motor.  Communications available are PROFIBUS-DP, PROFINET, or CAN.

CU310 is a controller that is also designed for interface to the power section of Power Module (PM340) as a single axis drive for control of a motor.  The combination of CU310 and PM340 are commonly called a SINAMICS S120 drive.  The CU310 can control either a permanent magnet servo motor or a squirrel cage induction motor.  The CU310 provides either speed or position control of a motor.  Communications available are PROFIBUS-DP or PROFINET.

The CU320 is a multi axis controller that is designed for interface either to several different PM340's or several different DC/AC units called Motor Modules as a multi axis controller for individual control of nominally up to six motors.  The option mentioned above as DC/AC units is descibed as a dc common bus where energy can be shared among several motors.  This can save energy when some motors in an application are regenerating.  Also, the dc common bus often provides advantage of a smaller overall footprint for a drive system when there are many motors.  The CU320 multi axis controller can control either a permanent magnet servo motor or a squirrel cage induction motor.  The CU320 provides either speed or position control of a motor.  Communications available are PROFIBUS-DP or PROFINET.

I hope this provides a good starter for defining the differences between these controllers for optimum selection in your drive applications.

Deputy
