Please can anybody explain the dependencies and restrictions between the next Siemens software packages:
- Starter
- Drive ES
- S7 Technology
- SIMOTION Scout
Questions:
- What is the reason Starter can not be installed together with Drive ES etc.
- Is the Starter (Sinamics drive commisioning) functionality included in the other packages?
- What to do if, for example, both Drive ES and S7 Technology is required on one PC for the different drive families (e.g. Masterdrive and Sinamics) in combination with Step7?

Reason for these questions is a remark in de document on the next web-page:
49515414_ALM_Control_SIMATIC_en.pdf, page 4:
"The functionality of the STARTER is already integrated in these packages. Only
one of the packages or the STARTER can be installed on a PC/PG."

Hello,

SIMOTION SCOUT have all functionalitys of the other packages (Drive ES, STARTER, S7 Technology).
You can install DRIVE ES and SCOUT on the same PC but not SCOUT and STARTER/S7 Tech.
On the DriveES DVD is the STARTER included.
On the SCOUT DVD the DRIVE ES Packages für the Drive Families included, so you need no additional DRIVE ES installation.

Regards
Christoph

Thanks for your prompt reply.
Your answer brings me new questions:
- If the combination SCOUT and Drive ES (with Starter included) is allowed, why not the combination SCOUT and Starter?
- What is the reason for these restrictions?
- What functions provide SCOUT more than Drive ES?
- What are the dependencies and restrictions between Step7 and SCOUT?
- Does a table exist with software packages and what software is included?

Remark: I know the compatibility charts are followed up by the next site:
https://support.automation.siemens.com/kompatool/pages/main/index.jsf
But this doesn't provide any understanding of the hierarchy of Siemens software.
Or is the word 'hierarchy' old-fashioned and is thinking restricted for the people behind the wizard-functions?

Hello,

the combination Scout and Starter is not allowed, because Starter functionality  is completly included in Scout.
Scout ist the Engineering Tool for SIMOTION PLC's (SIMOTION C, D, P), Drive ES is the Engineering Tool for the standalone Drives (Mastedrive, Simodrive, Micromaster, Sinamics).

Scout is a option package of STEP7. For Scout you need a Step7 installation.
There is no document which schow this laugh

I mean:
- the relation between SCOUT and S7 Technology.
- except for SIMOTION PLC's, can SCOUT be used for S7-PLC's and drives as Masterdrives and Sinamics? What if I have a mixed environment (several drive families with Step7) with one PC?
- why restrictions on simultaneous installation of all packages? Does it have something to do with the Smartheap problem?
Thanks in advance.

Hello,

1.) SCOUT/S7 Technology:
S7 Technology have a subset of Scout functions to configure technological objects on a S7 3xxT PLC and configure SINAMICS/Micromaster Drives.S7 Technology only for S7 3xxT PLC's !

2.) Yes Scout can be used for S7 PLC and Drives.
The programming/configuration of the PLC is doing with the Step7 tools (HWConfig, NetPro,
Simatic Manager) and the configuration of the drives can be made with Scout.

3.) Not with Smartheap only. The packages Scout/Starter/S7 Technology based on the same Code
and ressources. Have the same dll and so.
If there is installed all on one PC in different versions so how the system schould handle the
different rigth Versions of each program dll? The Dll's normaly installed in the same directory so
one Installation is overwrite the dll's from another version.

Regards
Christoph

Hello Cristoph,

So what is final statement on S7-Technology with Drive ES Basic on same PC? Does S7-Technology alone enough for configuring same as with the Drive ES Basic?
