Is it possible to use an absolute encoder for continius length measurement? The problem I would expect is the absolute value to overflow, while I should want the resulting length only to overflow if getting higher then the maximum LREAL value.

Good day sir Simotion.

I have a question for you. The machine we have an endless tape. Powered by a servo motor with absolute encoder.
This problem occurs when the machine is switched to the main power supply. Many times, the band begins to scroll back. When you switch the position is negative.

What is considered an absolute encoder, which goes over the limit (lower limit, upper limit)?
Thanks for the help.
