Hello experts
I want to know that how i/o modules are communicationg with the CPU, what are the buses and protocols they follow to communicate with the CPU, because we simply plug in the modules to one another. Like in s7-200 there is cable to connect i/o module to the cpu, in 1200 we directly connect it to the bus connector and in 300 we just simply connect all modules directly to the rail then how the cpu came to know that which module is connected at which place. How it communictes. 
 Please answer me.

Communication of I/O modules to the CPU uses what is known as P-Bus, K-Bus transports more complex information between  the CPU and specialized modules (CPs, FMs).
