Dear Experts

How an Induction motor work as a generator during negative slip condition? This is possible in only slip ring Induction motor?

Hi Mothilal

Yes Any induction motor can work as Indcution Genrator because basic construction for both is same

Motor will be in Generator mode when Load try to Pull the motor. For example, in high inertia load, if you are trying to stop very fast, then load will pull motor so in this case Motor will work as Generator

Best Example is, Hoist application of Crane. During Lowering of hoist, motor will always be in Generative Mode

It is also possible with synchron motor (solenoid rotor)

Thanks for ur reply.. Is it possible in squirrel cage induction motor ? Because the induction motor rotor is short circuited.. I have not yet get the clear idea about Induction generator(say ex: wind mill )..If possible please explain me in detail or attach any knowledge bank manual..

Ahhhh..

You like to use it as generator only?

Than it is not so very easy.

You must use an induction motor in "island - mode".
(Dont know the correct english word).

But you need a exciter voltage.....

If you like to use a normal induction motor as emergency power generator,
than perhaps it is not a good idea.

Usually the induction motor run as generator if he is connected
to the AC power line that brings exciting voltage to the field.
In this case, he just support the power line as generator but do not
build up the complete voltage by himself only.
