Connecting a PG with a V.24 Port to a PLC

My PG does not have with a V.24 Port i want to connect to a PLC S5 100U, what are the other options and which type of cable and hardware do i need. i am new to this feild.

Hello,

Are you using a Siemens PG? Please give the MLFB number 6ES7.....

Or are you using a Laptop? Does it have a real COM port?

I have some questions about your configuration.


Does your PG have not any serial interfaces (V.24, TTY)?

Does your PG only have USB interfaces?
What type for a PG to you use? Or is it a PC?
What kind of version of STEP 5 software have you installed?

i am using a laptop emachines D730G with i3 core processor and 2 GB RAM. win XP pro sp3
my laptop does not have any com port only usb ports are available
the Step 5 spec are 
simatic S5
Step 5/ST Version 7.23
Basic package

The STEP 5 online communication should work with that.
