Dear,
i've  a new siemens s7-300 cpu 314 (empty) and i've a similar old plc with a software . i want to copy the software from the old plc to the new one. i dont have a complete idea about interfacing with a desktop pc to execute this operation.
of course, i've step7-lit v3.0 incl sp2 but i dont know the proper cable to do copying of software!
can i use a direct DB9-DB9 serial cable with a proper pin assignment?.. or i must use such cable with MPI adapter?...help me plc

NO!

You need a MPI-Adapter!

Perhaps, you also must change the hardware configuration
if the new CPU is different from the old one!

but when i run step7 lite, it ask me to choose either PC adapter/profibus or PC adapter/MPI..
please what is the difference between profibus and MPI interface? also..i need the circuit diagram for the mpi adapter because i cannt get it !

If you have no DP, than you need MPI.
The standard CPU314 does not support Profibus.

But MPI will be supported by any CPU.

You can buy an adapter easily by siemens.
Or also at the shop where you got the Step7lite..
