What is the importance of "meaning" in a name?
"Step 5/S5" or "Step 7/S7" identifiy a family of products, much as your own name shows your family roots.

Many many moons ago I was told that the origin of the name STEP are based on an acronym for the following German sentence (this is however heresay and may be an old wife's tale) :
"STeuerungen Einfach Programmieren"

Literally translated this means: "Controllers simple programming",
a more appropiate contextual translation however is: "Easy programming of PLC's" and I think we can all agree with this, can't we?

Then again, you gotta love dchartiers shakespeare quote which says it all.
