Dear Experts
I would like to have your recommendation please.

Currently, my proyect considers CPU 416-3DP and CP443-1 for ethernet connection for their Control system.  Adittionaly, we I have to set up at least 4 independent Profibus segment per controller.

Our question is if we leave spare the MPI port or use it as an adittional Profibus port.

I personally think that when you need to solve complex problems that involve lost of configuration in communication modules or something like this, it is completely necessary to start using the MPI port.

I could be wrong, because I do not know if the CP443-1, even if it lost the configuration, allows comunication to the CPU. Perhaps Siemens provides a tool for assignment the IP address to this module, detecting their MAC for example, and in that way them avoid the necessity of using MPI port as the primary point of connection.

Please, could you feedback me with your opinions and experience.

Kind regards.
Pedro Ascencio

Hello Pedro,

Ethernet is more and more the standard network for communication and also usable for service and setup new configuration.
Yes for that you have to use the PST tool. I don’t know any limitation or fault where you didn’t get any online connection to PLC over Ethernet. I know some very old issues only with S7 300 with trouble on MPI Bus and back plane, but not within in S7 400.

Gruß / best regards

Hello,

Make the difference between using MPI port for connection with PG and assigned MPI communication via that port. Basically you can use (configure) Profibus connection and with 'good' profibus connector like  6ES7972-0BB51-0XA0 and 6ES7972-0BB52-0XA0 is possible to connect there PG.

First of all, many thanks for your advice.
If I understand well STEP7 NETPRO tool, itself, cannot configure the IP address of a CP443-1, on the contrary, this software uses PST for setting up this task.
However, I have just seen, in the liks taht you indicated me, that PST supports CP443-1 (6GK7443-1EX11-0XE0). My concern is because I already have 6GK7443-1EX20-0XE0 in my part list.
Perhaps, I will not be able to configure this module.
Many thanks

Take a look at http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/27013386 There is mentioned all cases of configuring and commissioning your type of CP.
