Hello Experts,

I am using 840Dsl on a new project, the configuration is NCU720.2 + PCU50.3 + HMI - Sinumerik Operate.

We would like to develop a measuring function to measure 3D workpieces. We have a Software running on a PC which generates the measuring coordinates based on 3D CAD model. We would like to run the machine under a DNC mode so that the coordinates can be fed continuously to the controller and further measurements can be done. Software on the PC generates measuring points during run time based on the results of the previous measurements.

Please suggest which connection is preferrable RS232C or Ethernet. Any Help to find relevant documentation on the communication protocol would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mahesh

The response rate between the NC and external PC is not guaranteed by Siemens. Hence this method if not allowed.
All data that the NC needs to make a movement must be present in the NC and not on an external device.

still a problem?

ist your HMI Operate running on the PCU or embedded on the NC?

On the older HMI-Advanced there is an DDE Server called NCDDE which is able to transfer nc-code - i don't know how the HMI Operate is handling stuff like that
