Difference in S7 300 and S7 400

Is there a risk to get communication troubles by connecting S7-300 and S7-400 on the same Ethernet network through Ethernet coupler?

Hello,

No, there isn't get risk. Both CPUs (with integrated Ethernet port) or CPs (external Ethernet port) are fully compatible.

There are kind of differences betwen S7-300 and S7-400 Controllers.the most important that.Let's assume that same program is loaded to S7-300 and S7-400.You can see S7-400 scan time is faster than S7-300 scan time..

You can create  Hot-Redundant systems with S7-400 PLCs whose switch time is about mseconds .But S7-300 you cant create redundant like this. You can make Software Redundancy but switch time is slower than S7-400 ....

Try to configure Hardware S7-300 and S7-400 in other window just basic idea you ill know the waht is diferance in these 3 and 4 series...!Rnf:lblSmileyTooltip_

However in Layman's Language S7-400 Systems are made for bigger complex and large machinery system where number of I/O's are higher and having much advanced features. Probably there will be a long list due to different parameters one will be looking at
