S7-200 and RS232-RS485/PPI problem with RF transceivers

Hello.

I have successfully established connection via RS232/PPI between a WinCC6 PC and an S7-200 Device. All data are being read and the visuals and tags are being updated. I then replaced the dedicated line with an RF Transceiver at each end. I connected an RF Transceiver to the PC and then connected the other RF Transceiver to the RS232/RS485 - PPI convertor. When activating the project, the RF at the WinCC side transmits fine... however the RF at the S7-200 side is not receiving nor sending anything.. the Tx  and Rx leds in the PPI convertor are not blinking.. knowing that the baud rate and all other configuration properties are set properly.
Why is this happening? is there a difference between Normal RS232 and RS232/PPI ? please help.

Hi Husam,

Standard RS 232 is 7 or 8 bit message with 1 or 2 stop bits and a parity bit.
PPI is 10 or 11 bits of message. Is your RF link compatable?  See page 232 of the S7-200 manual. It goes over your situation.

Hi Husam,

I think I see the problem already. I think the reason you don't have anything light up on the PLC side is because the Transceiver get it's power on pin 8 - GRD and pin 9 - (7.5-15 VDC) That's on the second page of the manual I received from you.

On the PPI RS485/RS232 cable, pin 8 - is Clear to Send, and pin 9 - is Ring Indicator. Page 453 on the S7-200 manual.

That transciever board is depending on a standard 9 pin configuration. Although RS 232 is the protocol standard, the board's not getting any power.

From the symptoms you described, I'll bet this is it.

Thanks alot for your help in figuring out the problem.
NOW, is there any chance or possibility for making the transceiver work properly? What configuration is needed or what extra pin-soldering ... etc is required?

I can't tell you how important this issue has become in my project cry

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I was out of town on business and couldn't get e-mail. Your solution is in the manual for the transciever board. There is a drawing for the cable you need. It's on the top of the third page.

Thanks for your help.. I really appreciate it much.

In the transceiver, pin 8 is GRD
and pin 9 is VDC, as you mentioned and as written in the manual. The thing is these two pins are needed as such in order to power up the transceiver and make it operate. On the other hand, On the PPI RS485/RS232 cable, pin 8 - is Clear to Send, and pin 9 - is Ring Indicator. I have already customized a cable as drawn in the transceiver's manula, top of page 3. However, (WinCC 6 <-> S7200) communication is not there. It is only functioning correctly when replacing the transceiver with a normal RS232 cable (Dedicated line).

I would be grateful if you can find me a solution on how to make this transceiver work !
