Hi
One of our costumer has ask me for a solution where different user can log on to the PCS7 system from outside the network.
The network and fire wall is no problem, but sine I don’t have tried the web server option before, I want to know if some of you have experience with the web server option e.g. if the is limitation of type and version of the browser.
An alternative could a windows 2008 server with e.g. 10 sessions (I know it will require 10 client license), and then the users could access system with RDP. I don’t know if this solution possibly in practice.
One of my concerns is if user of MAC computers can access the web server.
If some of you have some experience with similar configuration I will be great full if you want to share some experience with me.

Bedst regards

Hi Sören,

there are several options for accessing a PCS 7 system from outside.

1. OS Web option
Access to the OS servers via a browser through installing a web server. Problem here is, only Internet Explorer is released (for versions see SIMATIC Process Control System PCS 7 Web Option for OS (V8.0) http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/61187433).

2. RDP access as you described
I think this is a critical solution because you would have to configure all the security aspects on your own. You would also have to check all the systems in between your local and the remote machine.

3. SIMATIC Remote Support Service with the common Remote Service Platform
Have a look at http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/42346681. There you will find a very good option for accessing your PCS 7 system remotely via a secure connection with varying options for users, rights, accessible systems etc. In my opinion this is a very good solution.
