If I have my step 7 5.4 license in a usb dongle, is there any way I can transfer the license to a different location using internet or a different city. We have one license but need to be shared by two engineers, offsite and onsite, though both will be working on different time zone.

Please use offline transfer function. You can transfer license via several e-mails.

See for a ALM manual quote below

3.3.6 Offline Transfer of License Keys

The License Key > Offline Transfer menu command opens the "License Key
Offline Transfer" dialog.
Note
To perform an offline transfer of license keys, both the Automation License
Manager as well as the software using the license key must be installed on both
computers (source and target).
Select the offline transfer step you want to perform and click "Next".
You have the following options:
• Generate start code
• Generate request code
• Generate activation code
• Activate license keys

The wizard for the offline transfer guides you step by step through the transfer.

Generally it looks like this - 2 PC, 1 having license for ex. Step 5.5 basis. All so-called codes are generated via ALM. On PC you generate special file containing start code. Send this file to another PC. Then you can generate request code file using start code file. Send request code file back. Based on request code activation code is generated + license is delete on source PC. Send activation to target PC, enter activation code there - and license appears on target PC.

Aret,

Since this is just an offline transfer, what will happen if the code is used on multiple laptop or PC with one code/file?

Well, i dont know what algo is used in this transfer routine, but i believe target PC generates it's unique code, based on which source generate such transfer file, that would only fit target PC and would be rejected on all other PCs.

So you can't transfer 1 license from 1 source to multiple PCs.

Thanks Aret for clarification. Yes, I tried that, and it works only for one PC to another and not to the multiple.
