Hi,
i've got problem with Simatic 505 CPU 555, the CPU Good Led is off, both CPU RUN and Battery Good are on.
I know there is a fatal error in the CPU based on system manual. I already try to reset with no battery back up but the CPU Good Led still off.
I want to online with Tisoft using real serial port on PC to CPU Port 1 to know the fatal error code but always time out.
I use the pin configuraton as follow :

1&4&6 are short on both connection
7&8 are short on both connection
2 - 3
3 - 2
5 - 5

and also try this configuration :

1&6----------------4
    4----------------1&6
    5----------------5
    2----------------3
    3----------------2
    7 & 8 Short in both connection

All dip switch are left (ON).
Please advise.

Regards,

Ciwa

  • Did your programming cable work before ?
  • Try the CPU in another base with another Power Supply. Sometimes the CPU shows CPU good LED off but the problem is related to the PS.
  • If it still shows CPU good LED off, you may have a plain Hardware failure of the CPU. In that case replace it.

There is a certain amount of capacitance in the CPU.  In addition to pulling the battery, pull the CPU out of the I/O rack if you didn't have to pull the CPU out to get the battery out.  The system manual has the pin out for the cable on page 5-5 and chapter 3 has the dip switch settings.  The communication time out is indicative of a CPU that is locked up.

Hi Carlo,
- I've never test the cable before this is the first time.
- I only have new base and CPU, already try to replace CPU and base with the new one but CPU Good LED still off, i'll find the new power supply perhaps this is the problem.

Hi Billwest,
I already try to reset the fatal error as decsribes in the system manual chapter 9 and replace the CPU and Base with the new one. But the problem still exist.
What is the correct pin out cable?

Billwest sent you the manual with the connections in it but here is the page you need
