I know the Siemens cards are the best but my panel is indoors in a climate controlled environment, no vibration and so I would like to try a cheaper card. I currently have a 1gig and would like to put in a 4gig, is this possible?
Also what is needed to use a hard drive instead and again can I use one from another manufacturer?

If this is verboten to ask here just say so.

Thanks

Hello apmcs1,

The functions of storage media can be guaranteed only for memory cards that have been tested and released by Siemens. But I think you can use this non-siemens card, a bigger one. Maybe you have already tried this since your post here and you know the result...

hope this will helps.

Best regards

apmcs1,

it's not a matter of the brand of the compact flash. You have to plug a flash card "industrial grade" which guarantee a number of write and read number 10 times more compared with the cheapest one.
Even the temperature range of the industrial grade is greater compare with the standard grade, and last but not least, I don't know if a OS can be installed on the standard grade (I had no experience about)

In the first PC477 I started up some years ago there was a Sandisk compact flash re-branded with the Siemens code.
As far as I remember I was cross checking the flash card in the net and I founded Sandisk, but the price of the card increased with the price of the XPe was  similar with the net price of the standard Siemens solution.

Finally I decide keep on using the Siemens flash card.
